O God, protector of all who trust in thee, without whom no human enterprise can prosper, increase and multiply our blessings.
Be thou guide in our community work, and give unto us the strength and wisdom to successfully combat the ravages of our duties.
Especially do we invoke thy blessings on the family of our departed comrade.
For consolation we commend them to thee, who alone can heal the broken heart and give peace to the sorrowing soul.
Forgive us of all our sins and give us the strength to resist temptation, and finally we pray that thou permits us hear and answer our petitions, we beseech thee in the name of Jesus Christ our savior Amen.
Friends, precious are the ministrations of sorrow, through them we are brought into more tender relationships with all other forms of being, obtain a deeper insight into mystery of eternal life, and feel more distinctly the presence of the infinite.
When thus interpreted, sorrow becomes purifying and ennobling in its otherwise unapproachable manner.
Once more our circle of Police Officers has been broken, and saddened hearts are assembled to pay a last tribute to a comrade with whom we have long been associated.
But the faith we practice and teach is our sustaining arm in this hour of mourning.
We weep at the loss we have suffered in our earthly fellowship, yet not as those who are without hope.
All the teachings of nature are our assurance, and the promise of the master is our refuge. Because I live ye shall live also.
Heaven and God are best dis concerned through tears.
Scarcely understood at all without them, we must be made perfect through suffering, but the struggle by night will bring calmness of the morning.
To the fearful their cross is too heavy to be borne, but it grows light to the heart of willing trust.
